Where's his image that most makes you want to give up photography and become a gardener?
It's a great topic this jagar one, but I object to the hate connotation.
I cannot say that I wish I had taken photos like him. (I adore to spend time in that part of the world though!). I just appreciate them so much and that's their true purpose.
For a while I thought that it's the French connection, John's subjects and geographical place that is tilting the balance so much when it comes to general agreement on the merit of his pictures.
And then, I saw these, far away from "la douce France", just to point to some of them:

It's the way he filters life - and I have to insert this: His pictures accompany some of the most solid French writing, a Jean Giono's work for instance - even the title of his books (Que ma joie demeure, Le bonheur fou, Les ames fortes, Le chant du monde ...)
Like a true convert, his vision on France is one of the most accurate and persuasive depiction of the spirit of the place.
I wish that he'll publish a book.

Would it be possible for me to join the club, after all I hate that guy too, i suppose it's better to be hated for who you are, than loved for what you are not :)
i do have a "i hate jagear" tshirt somewhere buts it in reference to the drink not the man hehe, and dont worry it was ironic after 6 weeks touring with a punk band in europe and having a bottle a night with the lead singer, i was a walking bar big bottle in one combat short pocket, glasses and ice in the other :) dishing it out to local crew back stage hehe
