We've been watching this family of Red Foxes, in of all places our back yard! The above photos were actually taken from inside the house! The whole family comes out to play on the lawn two or three times a day. We're having a blast watching them grow.

We've seen Mom and six pups... we haven't been able to conclusively say we've seen Dad. He may be around, the male normally is, but perhaps he's more reclusive?
We've had foxes hanging about for many years. There was one that would watch our son play in the snow. It would sit not 30 feet from him and his friend as they played. We had another, years later, that would sit on the driveway and watch the cars go by. But seeing a whole family is something new, and it is beyond cool.
That must be cool to watch! I was at my Parents a few years ago and watched a family of Badgers feeding in their back garden - that was awesome as well.
Well, unless the challenge was photograph foxes in your back yard it might not lol however, it's a sight that few are privy too and am pretty sure you'd get interest from your local media?
Wow, that's a big litter compared to what I normally see around my house. We have a family of fox that have been hanging around and digging dens for about three years now. The most we have seen at one time is a litter of three. The female comes through the backyard two or three times a day.
I live in the country and have watched foxes frolic in my back yard and interestingly enough, the reason they were there is that I had mice in my compost heap.
They are great to watch when they look and listen for their prey and then leap into action.
I'm glad to see that so many folks enjoyed seeing our resident fox family. I hope to be able to continue to photograph them as they grow, and I'll update the gallery as I get more shots. What I really need is about a 1000mm lens, LOL. Even the 400/5.6 really doesn't give me anywhere near the reach I need for this.
@Ray: We are "sort of" in the country. It's really semi-rural, but we do have a railroad right of way along the back lot line, and I believe that this is why we have the foxes. There's plenty of cover and I'm sure there are plentiful rodents along the tracks. One thing for sure, we don't see many rabbits :-)

You'd be very welcome to visit us, but wouldn't that mean abandoning your desert post? ;-)
If just watching them leads to further addiction, it is possible, though difficult to "adopt" a domesticated Silver Fox. The cost is high, almost $4,000 USD, and there has been at least one "scam" related to this (research "Sibfox").
