I just had it delivered!! Luckily the CF card and CF reader came today as well. The battery is charging, it seems to take a long time (as compared with the battery for 550D). Now my big question is - how do I test it? I have 14 days to find any faults so that I can get it replaced if needed. Are there any common problems that I should check out? Any common tests?
What I'd do in you position is shoot like heck for a week or so, making sure I used all my lenses. I'd specifically do focus tests at widest aperture, near minimum focus distance and further away with each lens. Beyond that, I'd do some shooting in low light, pushing the ISO to 3200 or 6400. I'd do some landscape, on tripod, with mirror lockup.
The above are not exhaustive tests, but if it has major issues, it will show. The important thing is to give it real-world tasks that reflect your shooting style.
5D seems to be much louder when taking photos, a kind of metallic two tone sound. My T2i is quieter and makes just a single click sound like on an old fashioned camera. Could there be a problem with the new 5D or is it its normal sound?

PS I know now why a quiet option on MKIII was such a bit deal!
I went from the 450D to the 5D2 and also thought it sounded loud and weird - but you get used to it and after a while it just sounds right! More solid if you know what I mean.
There is a pseudo silent function on the 5D2 but it only works in live view and only with one shot at a time... useless parameters for most scenarios when you need a silent function (like weddings or golf courses)
As for tests to perform... [sarcasm on] dunk it in a bucket of water and test the weather sealing [/sarcasm off]
whats is this you get now a lot on photography forums with the paranoia that youve got a duff copy or an unsharp lens etc
just try it out shoot lots and see what happens, with the resolution of the 5dmk11 you'll really need some good glass to show it up,
i think ppl buying new bodies expect their photos to suddenly get massively better where in truth its mostly down to the photographer the body just aids things like low light performance etc
i loved the cud thunk of my 5d shutter when i upgraded from the click of my 20d, its also explained by having a larger shutter than your old camera, i like it sounds like my eos 5 film camera

I'm vaguely happy for you, I think, but that's amidst tonnes of jealousy.
Ok, no where near quality wise, but it's also 5mb smaller than D800 (not giving an excuse, can't compare 11 years old machine to 2 months old machine)
but, still very happy with the results... just enough for my taste ;)
