how has this guy no gotten kicked out yet, check out the post history. chronic spammer...
I've complained about him and the Benjiken guy several times. All they are here for is commercial purposes to plug things they get paid for. I suggested a while back that they allow him to buy "ad space" rather then spam us all the time, but alas, it gets ignored.
onOne stuff is pretty good, and 50% off is even better. I would think there'd be plenty of people on a site like this who would be happy with the offer.

That isn't the point, the point is, this guy is using the DPC site to spam it's members to make a living. If any of us were to be constantly and ONLY putting things on here to promote things we get paid for by driving people to our site to buy things, we would be sent packing. And yet they are allowed to stay essentially giving nothing to the community except links that line their pockets.

Yes and no. Dpc users are a well suited target group and, I would say, sufficiently homogeneous to say that 'spam' is not the right word. The offers are (apparently) genuine and good.

Which is exactly why being allowed to do it by PAYING the site to do so is the right thing to do and not just do it as a member. He should have to pay for the right to do this, then it's not spam, it's advertising.
It is correct that "the offers are...genuine and good". These are major developers everyone has heard of. Some deals are exclusive to my site, others not, but I try to make them easy to find.
Paid advertising on DPC would be cool, but I don't see where on the site it would go (?). Membership is a possibility but I don't tend to enter challenges/contests anywhere so that's a bit silly, but I do patronize ($) elsewhere.
You guys are clicking through so there seems to be some interest by some members, so what to do? If I upset too many of you, I'll go away whether the mods require it or not. Those who are interested know where to find me.
If his posts lead to members buying software at a discounted price I would say it's a good thing.
It's not like he posts continuously with rubbish offers.
This feller has never annoyed me as a "spammer", and I'm usually one of the first to mash the "spam" button. To me it seems that there is genuine interest from other users in the discounts he posts, and he's not the type of spammer that drops a malware loaded link or never responds if questions are asked. plugsnpixels has always responded with thoughtful responses. He's also not "constantly" posting. It's like once a week, and it's even in the correct forum subsection.
I can see the point being made to ban him, but I can see why he's been allowed to hang around. He's technically providing a service to members with legitimate discount codes for software we all want to buy. I bet he's saved quite a few of us some money.
He's sure saved ME some money. I don't understand the witch-hunting this eek, I really don't...

ETA: we FREQUENTLY have members alerting us to great software or hardware bargains. I've never seen anyone complain about that. THIS guy keeps track of 'em all and lets us know when something good's happening. So why are we on his case? He doesn't fit the classic model of a spammer at all, he's a very useful fellow to have around.

Robert the difference is the members alerting us to great software and hardware bargains, aren't making $$$$ off alerting us, this guy gets money for click thrus, referrals, and absolutely under his own admission has no interest in the site other then using it to peddle his site and make money off us. Which to me makes a HUGE difference. Langdon gets $$ from companies advertising on this site, which hopefully he reinvests in the site to make it better for all of us PAYING members. This guy is just taking the money he collects from members and doing nothing else for the site. He should be paying to put his links in front of you.
ETA Log out and look at the site, see those ads that are there? That is where his ads should be, not in our forums.
So would it be OK for a 'contributing' member to post a link to plugsnpixels website for the rest of us to get at the discounts? If so what is the difference really, he's just saving someone else the trouble and making sure we don't miss the offers.
Also, if he paid to advertise on this site members wouldn't see the adverts...

That's pretty much exactly where I'm coming from. I'm feeling vaguely insulted that matto seems to think there's something about this I don't understand, when in fact I'm just looking at it all pragmatically. It's a baby-and-bathwater thing. There's nothing to keep us from judging these rare commercial incursions on a case-by-case basis, which in fact is what SC has already done in the case of PnP.
It's not like we're in danger of being taken over by out-of-control commercial interests. Other examples of commercial interests acting only, and only occasionally, to their specific benefit (and, incidentally, ours) are the customer reps from B&H and Adorama who sometimes show up to iron out issues when their respective companies are being called to task.
Shall we ban THEM, too? Just how much of our nose are we willing to cut off here, to spite our lovely face?

Robert you are welcome to feel insulted or not insulted, but I assure you, I'm just trying to make the point that in the past with almost everyone else who comes in ONLY to plug their wares, their accounts have been closed almost immediately, however they have allowed him to Spam(yes IMHO he is spam) the forums continuously. There has to be a solid line or the chance that we get over run with "commercials" is certain to happen. Regardless if his posts are photography related or not, that shouldn't be the determining factor. Other accounts have also been selling photography related equipment and they are still closed.
I can only repeat what I said before, and what should be obvious to you: he's been here for YEARS.
The powers that be have chosen to let him be. There have been threads about it before, and he has been allowed to stay. We have not been overrun with commercial spamming as a consequence. The presence of the customer reps has not been detrimental either. The site authorities have judged these issues on a case-by-case basis. Everything seems to be functioning well.
