I've just started playing with it. It has some cool capabilities, and some not insignificant limitations. It is capable of extremely close focusing, but jpeg exports are 1080x1080. The camera appears to have some sort of dating mechanism. As the software is capable of determining the date of the exposure. But there is no way to set an internal clock. Therefore the images are not DPC entry legal. Currently only Mac software exists. The raw image is imported from the camera, saved apparently intact, and then converted into a multi focal plane "Living Image". Which, at this time is apparently five stacked exposure planes.

Yes, you can choose your focal point and export a standard jpeg. If you wanted to do focus stacking, you could export multiple focal points from the same image.
It's hard to say about the originals. Since you don't really see them. You see what is calculated from the raw files. I'm not sure if they can really get any more resolution or not. The sensor captures the direction and intensity of the rays of light, so in some ways it is like ray tracing in reverse. At this point, for resolution, it is no competition for the average point and shoot. But it is light, and very quick. People do not respond to it like a regular camera. Even though mine is a bright red, most people do not seem to really notice it. But then straight on, it is barely bigger than the surface of the lens.
