Don't get me wrong I am not complaining about my score, I am always happy to get in the top 10 and score in the mid 6's. But I have to be honest I thought I would do a little better on this one. Like I said I hate to sound like I am complaining or whining (might be to late for that:) but I am really genuinely curious how many of you thought I had photographed a real doll and did it affect your vote? It could be that it was just too creepy for you and I understand that, it creeps me out as well. :)
Jenn, I think anything under a 7 is slumming it for you these days. I can't offer any feedback on your question since I didn't vote and knew it was yours anyway.
I may be totally wrong, but I think that some voters were quite strictly expecting strange-looking persons, while your photo (and its title) suggests that we actually see a doll (becoming a real girl).
This could have triggered some DNMC votes; at least, that's all I can find to explain all these votes under 4.
I didn't like it very much, but it was not a matter of editing (it was pretty good). It's like an illustration for children and maybe it didn't work in this challenge (I don't mean it DNMC). But here it was IMHO a matter of taste.
ETA: it couldn't be a Gyaban's image considering that in his entry there is his wife :)

Well, I don't mean anything offensive... there are beautiful illustrations for children, but maybe some photographers don't like them. A score under 5 didn't make sense for this image, but we have seen how many votes under 5 has received LalliSig for his winning entry in the Best of 2011.
You got the sigma prize (see Posthumous thread) and a top 10....quite an accomplishment. Typically, you'd figure widely-distributed scores would average out to a 5. Maybe I'm wrong but it seems cool that your score is high as well as varied.
I loved this photo. I looked at it for a long time. I probably looked at it longer than any other in this challenge. And it still gives me chills.
You had one commenter that figured you were going for the brown....I don't understand that at all.
Perhaps you can chalk it up to not being able to please everybody at once. IMO, knocking the socks off of only some of the crowd is more of a success. You've touched on something within the psyche that is common to fewer people, but for them it strongly resonates.
I thought it was excellent. I figured a photographer who would go through the trouble of creating such a refined image wouldn't dash their chances on faking it.
Surely one of the best images in contest in my opinion, I gave it a 9.

I had this one pegged for 5th with a score of 8 from myself. I didn't like the clouds but that wasn't a major issue.
Looking at your score spread you certainly have one of those love it or hate it images.
First let me say I really like it and as usualy it is trchnically sound, creative, and wonderfully executed. I didn't vote in that challenge but my guess for a lower score than anticipated is that it wasn't a picture of an actual strange looking person. I bet there were a lot of voters in that challenge that downgraded votes if the picture was not of an actual strange looking person. Just my guess.
1's=2, 2's=4, 3's=9, 4's=6 / All those voters need glasses or should occasionally pull up "vote handbrake" as I call it :P
It pulled you down from a much higher average...
It also grossed me out...but I try harder to look into the reason and effort behind the shot in the absence of the togs comments.
If I strongly feel DNMC I will often say why. In your case even though the subject sent a laboratory chill down my spine, I voted 8 and left a comment. Also your competition was less "repulsive" if you will...
