A possible client is going to be in town this Friday and they're looking to get headshots for them and a few team members. They're staying in a hotel downtown and flying out late morning/early afternoon. Do you think I'll be able to set up this shoot in the hotel somewhere? What do you think is the best possible way to make this happen?
... Or you can hang around in the hotel bar the preceding night and pick up a woman there for business. They're always looking for some action. Then use her room the next morning.
i've had clients take a room when it was going to be an all day event and i've had hotels comp space as a courtesy for quick and easy portraits. it's just a matter of how complicated your shoot is going to be. are you setting up multiple lights, or are you shooting in strobist mode?
Has anyone else realized that the OP's post could easily be written to a hitman instead of this group? Totally looks like something out of a crime novel. lol.
Most hotels have attractive areas that would serve as good backgrounds for pictures, and most don't have a problem with taking pictures in their lobby / atrium / whatever. Courtesy, of course, is the rule of the day. Don't forget - it is easier to obtain forgiveness than permission. Of course, I'm speaking from my experience in the U.S. - your mileage may vary...
If they're staying at the hotel, it may be easier and cheaper for them to arrange the conference room.
Personally, I think you should try Slippy's 2nd suggestion.
I think I'll give them a call and ask them what they can do and see if they offer anything up for free. If not, I'll ask what it would cost to get a little empty room to use. Then bill the client of course ;)
