wow, i can almost see concern over the term "destroy america" but actually thinking they came over here with shovels to dig up marylin's grave? What a bunch of idiots.......
They should have just said they were from Saudi Arabia (our friends - LOL) and here to learn how to fly planes (but not land them). We would have let them right in.
So Sad... I am FAR more scared of the Rambo type in the US now :-( What sort of an IQ do you need to do think your saving the country in your job by deporting people for something like that.... does that really add anything
Yep, sometimes I feel like I'm living in a funny farm. If I'd done that, I'd have been sent to Guantanamo! I knew there was a reason I never signed up for a Twitter account.
The paper wrote this in a manner that shows language differences. Just because US and UK both speak English, does not mean the words are the same. That seemed to be the main point there. If, that is truly the case, then the US may need to review translations of foreign slang words. Granted, words like that used even in jest should be a cause for alarm, but in this case, it wasn't jest, just common language.
However, one would want to believe the US knows what its doing and the UK article is taking a side and using the language angle to artificially soften what really was a potential issue. In that case, the US is fully justified.
Based on the article alone, I'm not sure its possible to make a proper assessment of this. I'd be interested in hearing from UK people here on the language angle.
one thing to note is the mail is an ultra right wing paper.....
next we'll be refusing entry to anyone who celebrates independence day!!! similar sentiment to this hahahaha
haha makes me laugh how srious you takes yourself, and im not making light of terrorism, i know its a relatively new concept to america, i grew up through the troubles with the IRA (which pre 9/11 got alot of funding and arms from america) blowing up city centres and pubs etc, i was in manchester shopping as a 15 yr old when we got cleared out and they detonated the huge truck bomb.
so back to this, were they thinking its a double bluff by posting it on twitter hardly covert?
Destroy gets used as its definition: i.e i'm going to destroy that pizza, im going to go out and get destroyed, lets go destroy town meaning consume lots of booze not actually destroy it.
did the american dad or was it family guy ppl get in trouble for the original line about digging up marilyn?
Just makes you lot appear paranoid and alot of said "fecking americans" shaking their heads
so a happy medium might be better, i know last time we went on tour to the states one of our road crew got refused entry due to a caution for possession of marijuana ten years before..... when he was 14.... harsh
Never heard destroy in terms of going out and getting smashed, trashed, wasted etc. Maybe it's what the youngsters say today but I have never come across it. Impressed that they picked it up via twitter, top marks to GCHQ/NSA.
At least he was smart enough not to tweet "I'm gonna go rape some chick in the park".

I don't know about that. I'd rate it as being dumber than thinking terrorists run around in public with big ol' DSLRs taking reconnaissance photos in full public view. I can see questioning and maybe searching them at the very most.
I'd also bet the two Mexican drug dealers were released on their own recognizance back onto the streets with a warning from the British kid to stay away from Twitter.

I was referring to the technology , I agree but problem is that no matter how dumb it may be the authorities have to act upon the information, if they did not and something happened the sh*t would hit the fan. Not all terrorists are smart ! ;-)
Oh, ok, well I'm somewhat with you on that. Impressed and terrified.

Disagree. I highly doubt they act on every one of these things (assuming they detect them all) - otherwise they would be completely tied up chasing partying Eurokids and the like. I see much more threatening things posted all over the internet - by Americans.

I lived in London in the early 90's when a lot of that was going on.... Lots of closings, diversions, bombs going off (fleet street).... I was on a train that ran over a bomb site that went off a few minutes later (btw - why is it ok to run a fully crowded train thru a tube station at very low speed when the platform has been closed due to a suspect package - makes no sense, unless your trying to set it off :-) )...
I would HATE to be living in the US during such a events instead of the minor stuff the US has seen - yeah it's bad but compared to that time in London, what the US has is minor as far as nbr of events and issues (I wouldn't - I would leave actually)... I NEVER felt like a criminal in London during those times - the police always treated people in the way from my experiences...... I am made feel like a criminal in the US at times.

Some might argue that these Draconian measures are the very reason it's not like London was back then. I wouldn't, but some might.
It's interesting - I wonder if people would be willing to tolerate more bombs, shootings, etc. in exchange for a restoration of our freedom and privacy. Were Londoners screaming at Police/Government to clamp down to prevent those acts of terrorism?

I wonder if the draconian measures have actually prevented any bombings or shootings or denied any terrorists entry to the US? From what I can tell, the TSA is just a huge example of Federal bloat, a way to drive concession sales of overpriced beverages inside the "secure" area at airports and an excuse to feel up little kids while their parents are forced to watch.

no they were shouting at the irish lobby in the states to cut the funding and the guns.... which fell on death ears at the time
which post 9/11 did when terrorism became totally unjustifiable even when it was fighting for the fatherlands "freedom" i was reading about the 2 barret .50cal that were sent from usa to the ira and the 8 soldiers that were killed with them.
but some of the goals of 9/11 attacks were ==> remove freedoms, and bankrupt the united states which thye have accomplished to an extent, by cracking down to counter the terrorists youve lost some of your freedoms which is kinda a win for them...
