I'm a little disappointed that it's under expert editing, I get inspired at what people did with the first one. People had to use more of their imagination; now all they have to use is Photoshop. I hope to see imaginative people use traditional and non digital methods to pull this one off.

In my view that is the point of expert editing,to get folks to utilise software to the greatest extent learning new skills as they go.

In the right hands, Photoshop is a great tool for butchering photos. ;)

It is that....and can be quite frustrating when trying to get learn a new technique with new software...bah, went back to the old method until I can figure out how to effectively utilize Remask.
I'm beginning to feel like one of those cooks on those timed challenges on Food Network. May have bit off more than I can chew:-(

Even though I really don't know what I'm doing in expert editing (you should see the hatchet job I did last night!!!), I enjoy seeing what the masters can do. And Magic and Mystery is the type of thing made for photoshop. Our chance to live in a fairy tale and pretend we're taking the pictures there.
I tried putting seagull wings on my daughter last night. It was a truly awful attempt. I'm relegated to trying to do something with much simpler editing. But each time I try, I learn something more. I'm not interested in digital art. But playing with the expert editing has advanced my regular editing significantly.
After all, we had to go to the moon to invent Tang. Dream big!

Too many hours poured into this and way too many layers that caused it to crash when merging a few layers (I had a back-up saved thank goodness).
It looks NOTHING like I envisioned and I am debating whether it is ready for the voters.
I know what you mean -- but I always feel if I go through the trouble to shoot (and in this case edit) for a challenge, you might as well enter it anyway. Even if it's not good, you might as well get feedback. If you don't bother, you might always wonder how it would have gone over.
The only time I don't enter is if I want to save the idea for later.
Mine is not very expert I'm afraid, i think i'm too impatient, anything over 20 minutes gets on my nerves.
And if you take the blue I will congratulate you with a cake that has ...(counting my $@%#^ image) 30 layers. Don't know of any cake that can support that many layers so it will have to be image processed;-P
Sorry folks, but I get SO frustrated with these "I hate expert editing" threads. Lucky for you, THIS is the one where I'll rant :-)
Very simple things, such as spot cloning, when done a certain way, are illegal in advanced editing. This was the case of my DQ'd Great Dames. The image was mostly basic editing, except for a tiny piece of fur which I cloned from the cuff to the hem. Perfectly legal under Expert. Horrors, right? What a deplorable lack of imagination...
Then the argument about "unfair advantage" of those possessing better PS skills...

Several recent expert challenges have been won by both advanced and BASIC editing. Which goes to prove that it's NOT the editing which makes an image win - it's the image itself.
And sorry, Mario, but I take exception to your observation that people had to use more of their imagination before PS. The amount of post-processing going into breathtaking images (you don't think Ansel Adams did anything to his images...???) has not really changed, only the tools to achieve the results. In addition, digital photography and editing software have opened up a universe of photographic possibilities not conceivable in the "good ol' days", bringing us wildly imaginative imagery.
Finally, going by DPC ruleset, half my images (not posted here) are "expert". Even so, I would venture that most of you would not be able to pick the ones that are. Just because you can doesn't mean you HAVE to use everything in the PS arsenal. And if you don't know how to use it, it's this a perfect opportunity to learn something? After al, isn't that what DPC is about in the first place???
im far from a ps expert infact my ps knowledge probably amounts to 3% of the actual functionality of the package but i love these expert challenges (note: i didnt at first before i embraced and had a go, i was a whining straight out of camera man, ohh how times change) ive really enjoyed the ones ive done and enjoyed thinking about planning the shots i needed and how they would fit together for this one etc.
i wont do well but like i say its been fun, ive learnt stuff and improved my ps skills so :)
I have entered this challenge. Meets the challenge in my mind, but that may mean it totally misses with the voters. Didn't need any expert editing, but I don't begrudge others who want to use the allowed techniques. It's all okay.
That's kinda what I was getting at with my post. Bad skills can ruin a not-too-bad-to-begin-with photo. Replacing a minor blemish with an off-colour smudge, let's say. I think it's interesting to have whack effects next to more conventional images in the same contest.
