I am trying to use a filter and some of them (that used to be there) are grayed out now. I really need to use stylize but I can't select it...
Any thoughts?

Image>mode>8 bit is what you need. Some filters won't work in 16-bit. Or in grayscale, for that matter, if it's a grayscale image...
