No offense, but wasnt the main 'subject' supposed to be blue?
A large number of entries have the sky occupying a major portion of the photograph.. which makes them uninteresting, imo.

The wording left it totally open. "major component"
I wound up torn between 2 images & changed my entry....it now has a blue subject & getting hit with a low score anyway....probly cuz it's not a MOON! lol
I think if blue is not a major element of the photo (i.e. picture would not be noticeably different without blue) then it doesn't meet the challenge. the sky *can* be a major blue element in a photo, but it "ain't always so" Some photos (like this bird) use the sky well, making it important to the photo. Others in the challenge seem to have thrown in the sky or ocean just so that there would be *something* blue in the picture.
I have trouble when you re-define the terms of the challenge (i.e. when you have to say i.e.). Most of the challenges are worded fairly carfully to avoid the need for interpritation. It asks for the color blue to be a major element, no more.
When the problem is re-defined as being "noticably different" if that major element was a different color, then we are talking about a different far more subjective challenge. If I submitted a picture of a person from the blue man group, and someone said that the effect would be similar had he been painted green, that is subjective. If a photo of a blue eye were submitted, would the effect differ if it were a brown eye?
When you say that people have " thrown in the sky or ocean just so that there would be *something* blue in the picture." it seems you have figured out what they were thinking and judged them based that theoretical intent. It would be much simpler to judge what they presented without interpreting why they might have taken a certain course which led to the image.
If you don't care for an image, that is a matter of taste. If the image meets the challenge should not be.
I love the photo Kosta, and BTW I wouldn't change the tight crop. I like the way the left wing makes a leading line from the UR corner into the photo, and the body & other wing are precisely on the lower 1/3 line. Makes for a dynamic & interesting composition, avoiding the static look that such a crisp, high-shutter-speed capture can have. Nice work.

FWIW, my submission also used the sky as a "major component other than direct subject." I guess folks aren't having too much trouble with that, it's sitting at 6.6 =)
