Well. . .I was getting advice from one the guys here who knows quite a bit about the field of photography on a shot. He kept pointing out some errors I had made on the editing of a photo. I could not see them. I thought he was crazy. Then I hooked up a 18 inch standard monitor instead of using my laptop screen. The differences were amazing. Not only could I totally see what he was pointing out, but could also see just how messed up my photo was in general (still edited and entered to the best of my ability--and it is doing mmm okay). I could not believe the difference a new screen made in the appearance of my photography. I feel like a retard for using my laptop to edit.

Live and learn. Now I wonder what other horrible errors I am making without knowing about it.

I've edited on my netbook a handful of times. I've learned the trick to editing on a crappy screen is to not push the processing much.

what laptop was it?

my 17" mac book pro screen is excellent and neutral and compares well to my 15" mbc, i hook my 50" hd tv upto it as well but this has a brighter cast than native.

you can get a spyder to collaborate your screens

It was an old compaq unit. . .3 year old tech. I can't remember the exact model because it was a Walmart Special. . . One of the units that HP makes under the Compaq name.

I always try to check my entries on a couple different computers to get a "middle of the pack" idea. I'll also periodically print a 5x7 to see how things look.
The macs I've viewed side by side tend to be a bit more vibrant and bright, though I've never verified that they were calibrated.
