I have a potential buyer for a lens who needs it today. He has texted me asking if he can pay by Paypal and pick up the lens for a wedding the he is shooting this evening.
Is there a risk that the Paypal transaction can be reversed after he takes possession of the lens or are there other scam type problems that I should be concerned about?
I need to decide soon since he is in a hurry. (another sign of a problem?)
I thought of replying with that question but I wanted to be prepared to reply to his request before I return his text or phone call.
It does make sense that he could do that unless the funds that he wants to pay with are in his Paypal account and he doesn't have a Paypal debit card to use at an ATM.

I've never really used PayPal so I wouldn't know, but if that was the case there isn't a way to transfer money from his PayPal account to a regular account? If that's even possible does it take time for the transaction to show up and money become available on a normal account? Again, I've never used PayPal so I'm really just thinking out loud and inquiring.
As long as the account shows the money then it is fine. He can deposited/ transfer into your account but can't withdraw. Paypal only lets them put available funds in your account as well.
Yes, it takes several days to transfer funds from Paypal to your banking account. That's why I pay with Paypal when I can and use the debit card otherwise. I never wait for funds to transfer anymore since I received the debit card.

I had a bad incident with Paypal when someone payed for something from an ebay purchase. 1 months later found out he had used a fake card.
I'd contact paypal and make sure that if someone transfers cash that they are actually transferring real funds and not something that can possibly be pulled back later for whatever reason.
Also, would it be overkill to have him sign a statement that he *did* get the lens (with a 3rd party witness, if possible)? That way he can't come back and say, "I never got the lens."

That is a must, my son sold something and they said they never received it about a month after actually picking it up, paypal came back at him for the money. Make sure you have something signed so there is proof of delivery.
Take the advice here, get a pic of the driver's license, signed delivery statement, etc. Cover yourself...just in case. And yes, Paypal does charge a fee for transactions.
