When we look at others' photographs we often wonder if they were set up or truly candid. Did the photographer even know the person they shot? Of course I am not talking about the obvious ones. I have started to grow a great deal of interest in street candid shots over the past year and it has become one of my absolute favorite genres of photography. When I have my camera with me and I am out on the street, I am constantly looking for interesting moments to capture and at times I even anticipate that something especial is about to happen and for those cases I have even hung around for more than 30 minutes for that special magic to happen (like my "Left Behind" shot in the Toddlers challenge). I thought it would be nice to create a thread where people can post all or some of their favorite street candid shots they have entered in the challenges since they became members. These are all of my candid shots that I have entered in the challenges since I became a member. I have not included the ones where the people in my shots are looking at the camera because to me that is not truly candid anymore.
I am looking forward to seeing your collection now.

Good post put on watch. Love candids and street photogaphy. Have shot many but had not entered any into a challenge yet. When I happened to take my faves I was dumb not to enter them into a FS.
street/candids has been my favorite genre for a long time, so if I list here all my candid entries, it would be a lo-o-ong post... just a few

by the way, I would disagree that is a person is looking into camera, it is automatically not a candid. As long as it is spontaneous and not posed, it still is a candid in my book. I sometimes purposely wait for a person to look at me and take a shot at that very moment, it often creates a very special mood and tension. Like in these two recent shots
A good quantity of my challenge entries are street candids as well, but I can't compete with the likes of you, Allen, or Lev, or John. I enjoy shooting candids, though.

A long zoom lens which you seem to have should help. I've also noticed that it is much easier to get great street shots outside of US because based on my experience people seem to mind it a lot less (if they see you take their photographs) than they do here in US. As for Los Angeles, I don't even try really.
Cool idea. I know I have a few. A handful of these might be considered marginally candid, since they didn't know I was taking their photo and they were just acting normally, but they were doing something where they might reasonably expect their photo to be taken. Kind of a fuzzy line, I guess. I seem to have more of them as I get to the more recent entries.
Great subject Allen! I realized now that probably 50% of my shots are candids. Goodness, what did you do to me? And that's only a "small" selection.
Living in NYC shooting candids seems almost a duty. I have a lot of them grouped by location: street, subway, museums

Good topic. I seldom enter candid shots in challenges (but then I don't enter very many challenges) and yet it's the genre I like best and more than 90% of the shots I take are candids. However, the last free study was surely candid and did surprisingly well considering.
Oddly enough, the first one is a personal best. . .complete candid shot at the end of a 300mm zoom. The others are almost all shot with a portrait lens. I didn't put any model shots in here, or photos of people knowing I was taking their picture and "posed". LOL.
