Plugins. There's probably about 5000 people working on The Gimp from all over the place. Due to time zones, the development quite literally, NEVER stops.
Even if there's not a plugin for what you want, send someone an email, and it'll be done soon enough.
I have Photoshop 7 installed on Mandrake 10 Official using Crossover Office 3. Photoshop 7 also worked under Crossover Office 2. Photoshop CS does not work under any version of WINE/Crossover.
Having said that, I use GIMP most of the time. I really like the fact that the file manager (Konqueror) automatically thumbnails all images, including raw images. Being able to click on a raw file to open it "natively" in GIMP is quite handy, too.
Windows, Linux or even Macintosh. And it's free to begin with.
That it is... but it also involves totally relearning my workflow... also does The Gimp have RAW support?

You can use a dcraw plugin which is the same source as the Photoshop CS raw import under the gimp. I've only mucked around with it, but it seems to work OK, although not as intuitive as the CS one for doing odd whitebalance adjustments after shooting.
I've got probably 20 pluggins I've added to gimp for the stuff I do, the most useful being the channel mixer for doing B&W/duotone conversions.
The only thing I'd like is native support for 16bpp images, although gimp 2 may have it now? I've not checked for a wee while, I know they were working on it.
