Well I thought I would take my Sun photos in Raw yesterday, but now I'm have trouble uploading them to my computer, they show up on my computer, but when it's time to access them to edit there are NO photos. What could I be doing wrong, is there a special way to save them.
I always recommend using a card reader and your computer's operating system to drag the files from the card to the hard drive. I don't like to have any other software involved -- to me it just creates another layer of operation and a chance for error.
But did you just drag, with your mouse, the pics from the reader (which is just another drive) to a file on your pc?...or did you use a program to get them moved (or copied) ?
Can you explain how you copy them to the computer and how you are accessing them in a little more detail? I am wondering if somehow you just made a shortcut to the files, which are still on the memory card. Assuming you are on Windows, is there a small icon in the corner of the image icon that looks like a square with a curved arrow in it?
Perhaps there is a filter in your edit program to show only "image" files, but that filter doesn't include the extension of your raw images? If so, you should be able to turn off the filter. Good luck!
You can drag them from the card to the computer, right?
Then you can't "see" the files when you want to edit them. Is that problem? If so, it's probably your editing software - needs to be upgraded to view the RAW files from your camera. What are you using? Do you have the software that came with your camera? That should show them.
This MAY be your problem. You have accessed a Windows program. Close it but leave the card in the reader.
On the lower left corner of your monitor click the (Start) button.
Then the (My computer) on the listing.
Then the 'local disc C'...(double click)
When that opens, at the upper left, click 'file' then 'new' and give this new file a name...such as RAW
Then click on 'Folders' and your screen will split. On one side will be your drive C stuff including all your drives, which is where your card reader will be. On the other side you can find the folder you just created (RAW).
Move your mouse to the card reader drive and hold down the left mouse button. With button held down you can 'drag' the contents of that reader over to the (RAW) folder. By using this method you eliminate anything another "helpful" program might do to your pics.
Likely as someone already said, you created a shortcut to your reader and didn't really move the files. Sometimes methods other than this will unknown to you, modify your pic file and it will no longer be an "original" suitable for validation, should you be asked.
