My region of New York State including every community around me is getting slammed hard right now due to the remnants of Lee. I can't go anywhere. The roads around my home are flooded, washed out or completely gone. My house sits up a little higher than the surrounding terrain so fortunately we are safe, but basically closed in at the moment. Both side of my street are under water and some of my neighbors houses are as well. Raging creeks have become lakes and rivers. I'll try and post some photos up here that other friends have taken, and a few of my own if I can.
I live between Binghamton and Oneonta and both areas along with the counties are making national news now. Binghamton Flooding is actually trending as a topic on Bing as we speak.
Is anyone else going through the same situation. Please stay safe. Don't Drown...Turn Around as we say up here.
Just north of Sidney, NY and just south east of Norwich, NY. Between Oneonta and Binghamton, but a little closer to Oneonta. I lived in the Binghamton area for 13 years, Norwich for 5...The house I'm in now is the house I grew up in that was my parents. It's been in the family for 40 years.
Wow, I didn't think you guys got hit that hard up there. I'm down in Queens and nothing happened. Got family in LI who evacuated and Rockland who lost power for 3 days.
i live right out side Philly and we have had flooding here too, i know some major highways were closed in the Philly area this morning. Im not sure where your area is but i just got a rush job dropped on my desk that we need to develop plans for a new bridge to replace one that washed out in NY somewhere, i haven't started the job yet, so not sure where exactly it is. 30% plans in one week!
its insane how much rain we are getting, the ground is so saturated it just runs off.
Although it makes me want to drive up to Ithaca and see all the waterfalls. We lived in Ithaca for a couple of years, and buttermilk falls, after hurricane andrew, was really something to see!
I'm down state a bit. Luckily, I live on top of a hill, so I'm safe. My valley is also apparently a decent amount higher than the surrounding valleys. If you drive 20 minutes in any direction of my house, there is flooding everywhere, but not quite as bad as you guys have it. I'm glad this town has somehow escaped it all.
We still haven't seen the sun in over a week, which hasn't been so great for these challenges!

I love Ithaca...except for winter. I was just up there Memorial Day weekend on the lake, and took some shots of the falls etc. I try to get up there at least once a year if I can. It's only about 1.5 hours away from me give or take.

Yep, not a drop of water in our basement till now. We've got about an inch and a half down there now. Nothing ruined but the carpeting at least. Sump pump was unplugged. D'oh!

I'm in Ithaca and from what I hear we've had some flooding but nothing like what you are getting. I used to live in Binghamton and I'm not surprised by the images on the news. Hope you manage to stay dry.
At least when my neighborhood was cutoff by Irene, it was just a matter of removing some downed trees. You've got a much tougher problem to overcome. Ouch!
I'm surprised we aren't having serious flooding here, but I guess 6"-7" is minor compared to what you're getting.
MD is getting flooded pretty bad too they are opening gates on the dam and are gonna flood out a lot of people down the river. of course i went out trying to get pictures but the cops won't let you park and take pictures. MD cops are jerks or at least our county cops are. stay safe!!
Thanks everyone. Fortunately we are safe here even though we can't go anywhere. It's so heartbreaking to see so much damage and flooding all around me. We got hit bad in 2006 as well and this is even worse. Not sure what's going on with this world we live in, but it seems to get worse by the day.

This is nothing compared to the Wyoming Valley about 60 milies north of me. The Susquehanna river is expected to crest tonight at around 2:00 A.M. it's going to pretty nasty up there, they are evacuating over 60,000 people.

well hopefully everyone will evacuate like they ask them to do instead of trying to stay! they are opening up like 25 more flood gates on the conowingo dam today to try to keep it from flooding everyone up there but when they do that they are gonna put the town of port deposit under water. hope those people listen to the evacuation order too.
Not really. Some seasonal roads that take you miles out of your way to where you are going, but a lot of the roads they head into are also closed off. I'm sure that in a couple of days they will rig something up as a work around, but for the time being I'm not going anywhere by car. Maybe one of the rescue helicopters that were flying overhead today can land on my lawn and give me a lift. LOL.
Watching local news reporters on TV riding boats through the streets of West Pittston with water up to the second stories of the homes. A restaraunt I've eaten in many times pretty much totally underwater....just terrible scenes.
