What are the chances of a 3.1 mp camera making top 3. Or better yep what was the lowest mp camera to make it to top 3? Help me i'm depressed!!!
No need to be depressed. It is not about mp here. You are limited to the size you can post so, 2mp or 14 mp makes little difference here. Anyway, it's the eye behind the camera, not the camera.
Obviously, it is much more the photographer than the camera's resolution!
Bear in mind that the 640 X 640 pixel limit has a tremendous leveling effect on camera resolution.
That does not mean that all great photos will gain a ribbon, I see many that are superb but do not make the cut.
Some of my most prized photos were taken with a 1.5 mp camera (doesn't mean they are good, but I like them!).

Since we are limited to 640 pixels on the long leg, starting out with an image composed of a huge number of pixels is no advantage. There tend to be better optics on higher end cameras but that can be more than compensated for by sloppy work editing the shot down to fit. Too Cool's dome shot was the cleanest shot in the orange challenge. If we were asked to print them out to poster size, then the bigger sensors would have and advantage.
Yes, it's more the photographer then the camera, but having better tools gives the photographer more options, which can make them even better.
i.e. a great photographer can take great pictures with a less then great camera, but give them a better camera and the pictures will get even better (once they figure it out...).
