Considering that I got a DQ for the Lego challenge I don't wanna be DQ'd once again.
I was studying an image for the portrait challenge but what I can't understand are the limits of Expert Editing. I mean what can I create directly in PS? Can I create something like fog, lights, lens flares or is it forbidden? WHat I can get from the rules is that what is forbidden is creating new shapes... is it correct?
You can create directly in PS whatever you like, as long as you are the actual creator, i.e. no downloaded photo/picture/clipart, no downloaded brushes. Of course if you create many things, or end up drawing everything from scratch, you would probably receive some low votes.
Not always easy, true... but for example, if you add some eyelashes brush, it will look quite realistic, and in case of a validation request you could be in trouble without an actual photo of eyelashes.
Now if you create your own brushes from photos you took within the week, then no problem.
Oh, and yes, I know about the 12 questions, but I first have to think a bit about them ;)
If I add a texture that I didn't source but comes built into an editing package - is that OK to use. It is a proper texture, isn't discerable as anything else....

Hmmmm.... I'll take my chances with this AND my most excellent Free Study image ;-)
from someone who got dq'd from an expert editing challenge, be careful with how you apply texture if you don't do it right you risk a dq. i plan on entering again and i plan on using textures, so if i get dq'd again so be it. i thought i applied a texture before and didn't do it right but hey it was a learning experience.
so am i allowed to use brushes i download? if not why not?
Simply because they are classed as clip art. If you make your own from your own photos taken within the timeframe then they are allowed. But downloaded brushes are the same as using someone elses textures or photos.
Im glad this thread came up. I sent a question to sc asking if i may have violated some rules by using downloaded texture, manipulated it beyond recognition and used the result as part of my background. They havent responded yet but after reading this thread, i decided to play safe. Captured my own texture shot and re-edited.
