To some extent I feel the site council's decision may have been influenced by the ongoing forum discussion about this. Would it have been the same without everyone bringing up various arguments about it?

Well, I'll get the ball rolling. So if I used this painted backdrop for a portrait challenge, would my pic be DQ'd?
No..because it doesn't look like a photo. It is obvious that it isn't real.
What about these? They are backdrops of pics. So what I'm getting from this DQ is that no picture backdrop can be used or you will be DQ'd. If that's the case, the I think it's wrong.

Well now I'm a little curious or confused here. Tie your sentence about taking a coffee shot outside of the challenge date to the one that was just DQ'd. I'm probably gonna be wrong in my assumption but was the background shot taken then outside of the challenge date?

Hell yes....as far as I understand...it is a pure prop. It was not photographed by the Lego photographer.

Yes...because I have a photo DQ from a few weeks ago. If the Lego passed, then I was going to shoot my letter C entry with a cool idea/background. I won't do it now...so I won't get the second DQ.

IMO some or all of the new ones would DQ...depending on how used.

Sure, but this DQ was for an entry that drew much of its impact from a photo of a photo. The date of artwork used as a supporting element doesn't really matter, but asking how to enter an ineligible photo would be a rather different situation given that a photo of "coffee" for a Letter C challenge is likely to take center stage.

My mistake was in thinking that the owner of the DQ'd photo was also the OP of the coffee thread.
Since this kind of DQ has happened several times now, wouldn't it be nice to give examples of what not to do in the challenge rules section? I think if the owners of the DQ'd photos think it's ok, why not? Might help out the newer people who come to this site.
And I know, this has been brought up many times, just thought I'd suggest it again.
I disagree with this decision. I carefully read the rules and IMO my entry keeps being ok. The background was not the most important part of my image. It is blurred and if I had worked on PS I could create such a similar background myself without using a real photo. And if I didn't tell that it was a photo I wouldn't get the DQ. Several images of the Lego challenge are existing artworks, is it less important than a blurred image? I dont think so...
