I'll keep this short because the police are on the way round - we got burgled about 4 months ago - one of the things taken was a fuji finepix bridge camera - they just rang to say they think they have it (and the perpetrator)and they want me to ID it

I can probably identify it as the right kind of camera but i no longer have serial numbers etc (it's a few years old)

but i do have images taken with the camera. My question is will there be anything embedded in the metadata to identify the individual camera (rather than just the make and model)

And if so where do I find it ?

i believe the serial number is in there somewhere.

I am not familiar with that camera, but did you have any settings that were specific to you... such as copyright, or file naming structure... example all images are name structure: IDP_1234 Copyrighted - your name? If so have them take a shot and pull it down and your info would be in the data. Or possibly if you remember any custom settings you had on the camera it's self, they could verify enough that it's yours.

No fancy settings i'm afraid - it was quite a cheap camera that everyone used or i lent to my dad - i did just find a google link about a web crawler that seraches flicker for stolen cameras so there may be hope - thanks to both of you

And it was the wrong camera anyway - but i told them about the serial number thing and they had never heard of it so who knows

If you are using Ps to look at the metadata, look under Advanced, and under the exif/1.0/aux category.

oh, I believe theres a site that can check this kind of thing as you are able to 'find' stolen camera when people post their pics on flickr etc...google it - I will ask better half when he gets in, but yes, there is
