Nevermind. I did think the multiple exposure would be a dq but perhaps not in this case as you are only changing focus. I'm not sure.

Well, I submitted what I did, so i guess they will let us know.
"2 shots in Camera (Multiple exposure st to 2 with high gain), focus on boats then on Vodka. 400mm for boats, 80mm for Vodka."
The bolded part is the problem: it's as if you're combining two completely different pictures in post. That's what it sounds like to me, anyway.

true, I did not say, in the description, that the camera was in a fixed position on a tripod, and I just used the zoom and timing of events.
I don't think you understand what I'm saying: the only multiple exposures allowed in advanced editing are where nothing of substance changes in the framing of the image. When you changed the zoom between 80mm and 400mm you completely changed the framing of the shot, and you have effectively combined two completely different images into a single composite.
The fact that this was done in-camera doesn't change anything; you can't do anything with in-camera double exposures that wouldn't be permitted in post-processing.
I agree with Bear - changing focal length between exposures is not permitted since you are combining two essentially different images. if you only changed focus, you'd be ok. That's what I did in this photo
to have both the mirror pieces and the reflection in focus. Even though it was not contested, I am pretty sure this image would pass.
They're going to get you on the zoom AND the boat changing positions. Unless you zoomed in and snapped again before the boat moved, then you will surely get a DQ. The fact that the boat changed positions is the real killer.
Oh...cloning out the boat ID on the sails may get you also.
Focus stacking is permitted and movement has been accepted in HDR shots what with ghosting and all.
You have a point- its technically not the same shot if your subject moves, even in the slightest- its a "different" frame the same as different focal lengths- shouldn't make a difference that is wasn't you that changed it.
There are plenty of shots that are taken outside the challenge submission dates that are never dqd, i think it's a little harsh after this time to dq a shot, i thought a week after a challenge had finished your entry would be safe.
Maybe the SC should start auditing shots that were taken 12 months before the challenge announcement and dq those before your shot.

If you (or anyone) tell us which shots you consider to be taken outside of challenge dates, we'll gladly look into them, regardless of whether it's a current challenge or and older one (within reason).
sorry for the highjack but how long should ppl hold on to the original .. mine are all backed up on carbonite or t/b drives but I would have a heck of a time finding the original quickly if it was in the 6 months or longer category. Yeah, I suck at creating folders properly named.

I've asked this question before and I would love to see an answer for this.
if your doesn't make top 6 or 7 (giving room to move into top five for others dq'd) i wouldn't bother holding the original unless your shot looks like someone would submit for validation. it dont think stuff like this happens very often.
