I usually adjust exposure and do a little curves adjustment or maybe pull a little red or blue out of an image if there's too much (Or any other color for that matter). Do some of you use presets and then do extra editing in Photoshop? Is there a reason?

i have a ton of presets, for all types of lighting conditions and for all types of effects. i have them both for developing and for exporting. most of them are mine, but i also have some that i found on the web. it's great, not having to start from scratch each time i have a job. i only use photoshop for 1) applying filters not available directly through lightroom, and 2) applying watermarks (i found the lightroom watermarking to be too slow, especially when i'm exporting over 100 images).

I normally don't use presets, but I did for this image for the first time in a long long time (after topaz and some ps work too).

I think it was 'old style' or something.

I am with Skip on this one - I have a lot of presets and use them as a starting point. By now most are my own versions in both Photomatix and Lightroom. When I started using them I downloaded loads from the Internet and found out ways of doing things I would not have thought about. So they can be quite educational sometimes.

I agree with everyone. Presets are a great tool for inspiration... for exploring creative ideas and then using that as a starting point.

For example, this shot was quite boring when I first took it and I was scrolling through presets and came to "night grotto" (I honestly can't remember where I got it but you can potentially google it).

I tweaked it A LOT after applying the preset but it really was the beginning of the creation.



By the way, this picture was taken in the middle of a partly cloudy day, full daylight.
