Yes, I bought a new camera!
I got the Sony 717. I have 30 days to decide if I like it, so I'll shoot away.
Any users with good tips, feel free to let me know them.
And yes I am a digital cameraholic!

There are soooo many features! Plus there are many illegal combinations that need to be figured out. Some of the cooler effects that I have tried, the burst mode helps capture action shots, but has limits when combining with other features. I really like the way they did solarize, very cool. The clip art (motion gif) is pretty cool, but not at all legal here and is very limited in picture size.
The best feature is the picture quality. If only I could take a good picture, it would be a wonderful combination (me and a camera).
I'm on my fourth digi-cam, but only have two left in the house. I keep selling the older models......Good luck, as if you need it!!!!
TerryGee....there have been some problems with the 717 and the HAF (halogram auto focus) function and a lot of cameras had to be sent back to sony to get fixed.... there is a serial number list floating around the sony talk forum.... I would check it out to make sure your new baby is not one of the affected units.
Also there is an issue called DLS (dark left side) i think thats what its called. and this requires a firmware update (aka ship back to sony), but I do not think there is a list of affected units...its just a very random problem. This means that in some images the left side (or top side) will have a much darker edge than the rest of the photo.
The sony Talk forum is great and has all you wanted to know about your 717 and more.... use the search function and you will find a lot out.

I bought a floor model(to save a little $) and therefore it was one of the earlier models. If i decide to keep it, I will definately send it in for the fix.

Congratulations! I also got a 717 for xmas and I'm very happy with it. My first submitted picture with this camera is doing great in the B&W Portrait challenge.
I'll be very interested in taking a look at your pictures with this camera. There are already great ones in DPC shot with the 717 and the 707.
