More and more security cameras are being used to monitor citizens (catch criminals), while police and security personnel are cracking down on photographers. Seems a little one-sided to me.

feel sorry for the poor guy for putting up with over paranoid a**hole cops that dont know the law they are sworn to uphold. kudos to him for standing firm and standing up for his rights.
It seems to me, that the USA is increasingly moving toward a police state. It feels like the government is jumping with joy at what happened on 9/11 as an excuse allow it's gun-toting forces to do whatever they want to the people they are supposed to be working for.
Canada is envious, and wants to be like it's big brother to the south, so it's similar here, with the same cries of 9/11. Only Canada is still a bit more focused on collecting taxes and HST from its citizens at the border than fighting crime or terrorism.
It's too bad, but what can you do when the government employs the forces and they will do what it takes to support themselves and their families. It's just a job to the pion forces, who are nothing but shills for their paychecks.
It reminds me of an old computer game called "Civilization" I used play. You'd build cities and had the lengthy, expensive choice of building entertainment and/or "world-wonders" to keep the citizens happy and prevent revolt.... or, you could load the city up with armies to force the citizens to behave and remain productive.
Kudos to this guy for continuing to record, his balls are much bigger than mine. I would've backed down and cooperated right away, as I've done several times in the past, like a good little sheeple. Maybe I'll grow a pair someday.

So, bottom line...if I ever get a new camera, make sure it has video to ensure if I ever get stopped I can cover my butt! What next...I'm getting so-o-o-o tired of this type of misguided "authority". (I'm in a pissy mood, anyway!) :P
It pisses me off that "the authorities" are being paid while they inconvenience people, and they really have nothing better to do. Meanwhile, the people are losing an hour (or whatever) of their life. >:-(

Didn't you get the memo... every single murder and missing person has been solved so they have time on their hands for inane crap :-).... Shame you cannot rely on the person enforcing the law to know it :shrug: or to use some common sense and keep out of what is clearly nothing :-(

Yes indeed, and having spent 30+ years working in the RCMPolice you have no idea how many times I had to risk my life to go save some idiot who decided that base jumping would be fun, or that he would enjoy sailing out to sea even after being told not to because it was too dangerous by the harbour master, or hiking out in the woods without a clue as to where they were going... yes all those "Nothing better to do things" you speak of most certainly kept me busy and wasted more than the odd hour of lost time you allude to.
...oh and you know what else, when I started working in the police environment I got paid a posh $4,800.00 per annum with no overtime and had he great fortune of working on several one man detachments in a row.
I most certainly do not agree with the actions done by the authorities in this instance, but sadly most participants in this thread would have little if any idea as to what a lot of officers have to contend with. Forget about knowing all of the laws, most people could not even remember the name of all the statutes police officers have to enforce.

Not to incur further huff from ray, I found the incident disturbing. Not surprising, but then that is part of the disturbing. When was it that government decided it was better to arm a larger number of policemen and soldiers than had the discretion to apply them?
