I read the best place to live in the United states in Los Alamos, New Mexico. I've been there twice in my life...and that whole area is incredible. Taos isn't far from Los Alamos, it's just very breathtaking ... in my opinion.

I didn't see a list but I just read this: Sweden ranks a close number-two, followed by Canada, Belgium and Australia

I am not sure. lol I guess it doesn't matter if Canada is number 3 or 4 anyway. I just know that I gotta get out of the neighborhood where I live. Yesterday there was a shoot out with the police and some theives and just an hour ago there was a stabbing right across the street from where I live.
That may be if what your looking for is material stuff and so called "standards of living". For a photographer I belive I live in one the best places possible. The transition from communism to capitalism, the fairly low standards of life, makes the human comedy look real good for the camera. Plus the landscape that has all forms, mountains, sea, danube, danube delta, makes it even more beautiful. A bit hard to live here but that makes it even more exciting. I mean how boring can it be to just have everything? I love where I am. Norway may be the best place to live acording UN, Romania is the place to be acording to ME.
PS, Prince Charles visits here preety often recently he decided he loves it so much, he bought a house here. (I almost cought him on camera on one of his last visits, but damn security :))
I with ya, frumoaznicul. I feel lucky to live in Canada, but I'm in Southwestern Ontario and the biggest thing I have to battle when looking for good places to shoot is the disgusting prevalence of suburban sprawl.
Oh well -- just means I have to look a little harder, or head to Toronto for pics of older buildings. =)

LoL I have a house near my city that is almost as old as the Cristopher Columbuses big discovery, if you know what I mean :))
Oh and one more thing, speaking of landscapes, you have no ideea how many Hollywood movies are filmed here. Cold Mountain is one of the latest that whas entirely filmed in Romania.
