It has been noticed that there are 2 types (base on information I found) of optical sensor, ie. CCD and CMOS. Canon's latest DSLR seems to deploy CMOS (D60, 1Ds), but the 1D is using CCD. Is there any website that talks about this sensor technology in details? I would be very interested to learn about the pro and con of CCD and CMOS, and some background behind the technology.

I'm not sure how these relate to the new Foveon® chips, but those are supposed to be replacing the existing technologies soon...

Currently Sigma is the only manufacture to use the Foveon chips. The Foveon camera has no interchangable accessories with any other Sigma camera.

Currently, speed is being sacraficed to produce a sensor that can derive all 3 secondary colours (red, green, and blue) in any single pixel.

However, at 3Mp the pictures are very nice.

Give them some time to improve this one. :-)
