Tim Hetherington and another war photographer were apparently caught in mortar attacks in Libya.
I have seen his work and have always been very impressed by it.'
He was a very brave man.
Discovery hd aired Restrepo last night, i had never seen it before, I would certainly recommend it. The documentary certainly captured the raw emotions of those serving in Afghanistan.
This news really saddened me, more than I would have thought appropriate. Is it because they were photographers? I do know that when the unrest first began in one of these countries, there was a picture on the front of the New York Times (I think it was) that really hit me - the man was standing in the street, dressed in essentially business casual attire - with a gun. He looked so completely out of place. Beyond him things were of course burning and what not. The point that hit home to me was these were everyday guys with desk jobs in many cases, who felt strongly enough about changing their country that they picked up arms and went to war. And someone, like Mr. Heatherington or Mr. Hondos, went too, and showed it to us.
May their families and friends find some peace, and may those who are still there with cameras stay as safe as they can.
A sad time and my heart goes out to their families/friends.
I have so much admiration for the work that these photogs carry out and also I am a little jelous and envious of them. I wish I were 20 years younger as I would love to do this type of photography.
