My "favorite" is to send prints out for printing on true photo paper -- I don't even own a color printer, though I have access to both a laser and a 54" Epson professional proofer.
Most of my prints go through Costco to Fuji Crystal Archive paper -- they have printer profiles for each printer in each store, updated every six months.
For specialty prints I've been using the Kodak Gallery. I've been getting mostly metallic prints from them, but they also can print to true B&W photo paper (I forget the exact type) and to their Endura professional color paper at pretty reasonable prices.
I think by the time you deal with calibration issues, wasted/jammed paper, ink refills and such, the online pro labs are more economical than printing at home, as well as being of known (if limited) archival quality. |
