Long story short I was shooting for the coffee challenge and my makeshift softbox fell over knocking the lens onto the basement floor. After that the lens would only screw on partially and the zoom was stiff. I have managed to get the lens to screw on but the auto focus is not finding focus points. Manually it works well though. Having never disassembled a lens I am reluctant to do so...however I am too broke to get it repaired. The zoom was pretty loose when I bought it but I think it's a little too tight now. Plus I can hear loose stuff inside. Anyone ever take apart a Canon lens and if so how tricky is it to get back together??
And yes...I learned to store my lenses away from the action instead of right next to it. Surprisingly, the 50mm cheapo lens hit the ground and didn't have a bit of damage.
It actually sounds a bit like my old Canon 50 FD Mount when it fell on the DC 2007 GTG. It kind of sounds to me if both the zoom is stiff and the mount is being difficult that there was minor damage to structural components. But hard to say if that is the case then would it have let go of something on the inside.
Those parts are made with a certain amount of precision these days it wouldn't take much change to make it not want to mount. If the motor is working I wouldnt suspect the com pins and the AF is contrast based right so the camera isnt liking something..... been so long since I had an EOS camera I cant think of anything. I borrowed that exact lens on the GTG too. Once again looking at the interface on the lens side. It might not take much of a change to throw it out of whack but the camera pins should compensate for a slight difference, I would be thinking inside the lens.
A couple weeks ago mine got broke too. Same scenario except my granddaughter slammed it to the ground. A word of caution. Mine also still worked manually at first, then when working the focus ring something inside came loose and now you can see it through the lens. I'm sending mine in for repair next week for $90.
Well, that stinks. I did similarly once, but it was the cheapo 50mm. I was finally able to fix the lens, but an oversight caused to to break my camera.
I think it has happened to most of us at least once. Didn't Slippy start a thread a while back asking what was the most expensive lens you dropped?
I read the title and the first thing that came to my mind was....the car, once you lend it to one of your children.

He then related how he found out; said something about a mysterious deer.
I read the title and the first thing that came to my mind was....the car, once you lend it to one of your children.
