Ah, I know Fallbrook well; I'm a 4th-generation San Diegan. We had close friends up there who grew avocados. Played a fair amount of golf in the area too. Before I emigrated to Cape Cod 10 years or so ago.
We'll be out in California for a month in May, but we'll be around Big Sur and the Bay Area, not down south.
Avocados and golf..not much better than that. Tons of wineries around here as well.
It's funny that my story is very similar to yours. I'm a 4th generation New England'er and have been to the cape many times. I moved out to San Diego back in 1997 in between I traveled for work to Chicago for a year, Boston for a year, Arizona for 5 years and now I'm back in Sunny CA for 3 years now.

I recently renewed my membership. But I need to enter more challenges. Last time, I didn't enter very many. I have the next 2 days off so I'm going to take enough pictures to enter every challenge this week. Except for the ones ending tonight.
