I think the difference in a good jewelry photo vs. a bad jewelry photo is in the lighting and not the camera. Ask some nice jewelry stores what lights they use and you will see that they typically do not use normal bulbs. They use special bulbs that similate sunlight, if I remember correctly. It has something to do with the colors in the light and how they prism out when they hit diamonds and stuff.
I could be totally wrong about this, someone correct me if so.
