You certainly cannot complain about a top 50 finish in the best of the year challenge, Wendy, but... my personal preference is for shot number one. There's an artistic simplicity to it that transcends the typical wildlife shot. That said, the shot you entered is a fine example of an excellent wildlife shot and a unique capture, and that's why it did so well with the voters. Not sure the one I preferred would have had the same mass appeal.

Definitely not complaining about the finish. It's actually right about where I expected/hoped.
My favorite was the one you chose. But it didn't seem to have the mass appeal. But it's one of my favorite shots of all time. I'm so pleased you liked it!
I had a difficult time with this. I guess I picked the one I did because I wanted to be reminded of our trip to Paris, which one of the best times of 2010 for me.
I had some nifty sunsets, but nothing to compete with some of the masterful landscapes others provided for our enjoyment. I'm good with the quieter stuff.
I waded through some 8000 pictures and narrowed it down to 20, then showed them to a couple of people at my chiropractor's office, and they narrowed it down to about 14. I entered the "most popular" one, and made the rest into prints ... not that far away from Adams' proverbial "12 good shots a year" concept ... I find it somewhat interesting that the vast majority were taken while traveling, mostly from the train, which offers some unique if fleeting views ...
