I have been at DP a little over a year and having just voted on "The Best of 2010" realized that
there are three very distinct trends that seem to have peaked over the last year. The choice of B&W
almost as 'shock value' and sometimes to the detriment of an image is one, the overuse of
Topaz or filters that create a "Smurf" like quality to landscapes is another and lastly is the dramatic increase in Posthumous
style submissions.
I think there are extraordinary images submitted in every challenge but I am curious to know if I am totally off or if others
see the pattern that I do.... not complaining (I love being here and have learned so much) .....just curious.

I think the second (Topaz abuse) is actually waning now, it peaked quite a while ago IMO.

Your first and second categories are related: there has been an increasing acceptance by the voters of B/W and "arty" entries, possibly as a result of increased exposure to same through side challenges and very specific "real" challenges, so folks are more willing to enter them and the strongest of them are betting better scores.

This is a Good Thing IMO :-)

A definite plus to the site. Adds variety, and often creates discussion; even if in small groups.

That's funny. It's amazing how your eye adjusts and colors start to look garish and overblown, I think
a black and white sunflower or hummingbird will signal the end or actually a 6!
