I was blown away yesterday when I won Grand Prize at a University of Oregon Photo Contest for their Outdoor Program with a...wait for it...black and white entry! I entered the Painted Hills Moonrise shot I used for the Master's Free Study (less sharpened than the version here on DPC). Anyway, I wanted to say DPC has been a huge part of my photographic growth over the last five years. It has helped me to expand what I do and improve how I do it.
The photo gets published in a local Magazine (Eugene Magazine) and I won a $100 gift certificate to a local photo shop and $100 cash. I promptly went over today and ordered a 77mm 9-stop ND filter which I've wanted for a while.

I have to say that I echo your thoughts on the part that DPC has played in my photographic growth. Whatever shortcomings we have, our little community encourages rapid learning by forcing us to think and act outside our photographic comfort zones.
That was the first tutorial/how'd they do that I read when I first joined because i thought it was such a wonderful image, and I know I've come a long way thanks to DPC because I didn't know what the hell you were talking about back then but now I do (though still cannot replicate it). Well done.

You know what's funny, the local store said they couldn't get or find a 10-stop filter. It was like they'd never heard of it. They were convinced I didn't want a 9-stop either but thought I wanted a 0.9 (2-stop). This is probably one of the best local shops, but I gotta say I'm not super impressed.
