... custom furniture makers? I'm trying to find a real version of something like this (maybe a little less on the creepy side though) ... link. It's going to be used to hang a custom two sided mirror that will be a bit on the heavy side. Anyone know how to find something like this? I've tried googling every term I can think of from meat hook to fancy hooks to hanging hooks.
mabey a combination of some of these wrought iron hangers or try googling under wrought iron hangers. I'm thinking a curtain rod suspended from the ceiling with hooks coming down to hook the mirror on, is that sort of what you had in mind?

No, these will be quite heavy. The mirror dimensions are 50 x 30 inches, framed in 6 inch wood all the way around. My husband is making these for a beauty salon. They will be hanging between hair stations. The salon is going for a certain look to combine the feminine with the masculine (in other words, trying to get more male customers). The mirrors will be hung from chains from an open ceiling and we were kind of hoping to be able to use meat hooks (the old fashioned type with the triangle at the top) but I can't find any that are usable.
Something like this? We call them S hooks. There might even be a blacksmith (for real) that would hand forge some for not much. Tons online. As for the blacksmith...check the local Ren Fest for artisans and they may have one listed. Good luck!

I was looking for something "more" for lack of a better term, gothic/fancy, almost like something Halloweenish in it's garishness, just not ghouly. Turns out ebay wasn't the answer as the ones they had, they only had 1 of. We may have to come up with a different option. We need 8 of them and cost is an issue since the actual mirror part is going to run about about $900 (4 mirror sets, 8 pieces of hardware, plus hanging chains and wood/paint, etc.).
Hey Kelli, this may seem like an oddball idea, but go down to the local feed and seed store and/or local tack shop in your area. Some farriers, esp those that do hot-shoeing, can't get enough of metalworking. (The psychotic Belgian farrier I dated some years spring to mind though no the psychotic part isn't a prerequisite ;-)
Other ideas...does local community college have any kind of ironworking courses, where you may be able to find someone really good, via the instructor? Hope these ideas help.
ETA: Ductyl's vintage hay hooks are also an excellent idea, and would be easy to replicate.
Like Ductyl, I was also thinking hay hooks or grainary hooks. Some of the hooks would look very kewl with the handle as an added touch of "rough" or masculine. Let us know what you end up doing as now I'm super curious!!!
@ Kat... I'll take pictures! LOL! We're still waiting on the mirrors, they had to be ordered, but once we get one put together (I say we like I'm actually doing something but I'm just the idea woman) I'll post them for sure. We're (again, I'm just design work) doing a whole salon in two connected buildings both 20'x100'. So the whole thing will take a bit.
