She has an outstanding exhibit that opened recently in New York City, dealing with the city as she imagines it in the distant future. before this she illustrated such themes as "Unnatural History" "Lost" "Some other Place" and "Accidentally Kansas."
She constructs small dioramas and then photographs the results.
After wandering through her website just now, I thought this splendid artform might be of interest to DPCers.
It's really strange but also very cool. Thanks a lot for showing us. Some of the decay scenes like Mastodon are really cool, but I also like Birds in Flight and Elysium Fields quite a bit.
Very cool. I wonder how much time these take? I hope she keeps the dioramas, as that is the real artwork more than the photographs of them.
I agree that those dioramas are magnificent pieces of art. Still, she describes the materials used to be, in some cases, somewhat ephemeral and she constructs the art pieces specifically so that she can photograph them. From one particular angle, she says.
I am amazed at the detail and imagination she shows. She says it can take up to seven months for one piece. It also takes a while to photograph the finished piece, but I cannot again find the reference to how long. It's somewhere in the mountain of information under "About" on her website.
Like the photos of the ruins of once grand Detroit, but not. Would love to see the photos at a larger size than that shown on her site.
Yes, it looks as if she exhibits mostly in the North and South-Eastern part of the US, although I see now, that in 2005, she exhibited in San Francisco at a gallery that I sometimes visit! What a missed opportunity! dang.
Maybe she'll be back in the western part of the continent one of these days.
