Yeah, I'm lucky to live hear! I feel for you Strikeslip! Ottawa is great, as I can be shooting deer, birds of prey, blue heron and many other water fowl. All within 20 - 30 minutes from downtown.Not many cities offer up, such close wildlife areas.
Yes, winterlude and bluesfest are main attractions. Although the market area downtown is great in its own. Lot's of great restaurants, shops and vendors. Oh and the bar and local music scene is great too!
Can't forget the museums too! So take Strikeslip advice and make it a destination. You won't regret it!

'Hottawa' has been a nickname for that big ol city in the summertime ever since I lived there (24 years), and it usually is colder/hotter by at least a couple of degrees as opposed to where I live, which is now approx 65 km southeast of Ottawa. The humidity can be brutal.
ETA: Ray, usually on CTV evening news they mention humidexes, wind chills etc and I have heard figures like those mentioned.

From experience!!!!! I've been there in the summer often and I've experienced those temps.
I think the highest the humidex went this past summer was reported at 45 degrees, on the 6pm evening news channel. Was way too hot to mow the freakin lawn all at once, that's for sure! Even in little more than a sports bra and long flowy skirt and bare feet.

...and I remember that day. I whipper snipped my ditch, cut the grass and weeded the garden, and was still laying on my back on the deck in a puddle of sweat when you came over for ...I forget what for... it's the age thing again :O)

I love, love, love Ottawa. But it's too cold for me in the winters and too hot for me in the summers. I need a spring/fall house there!
I know I prefer it over the wet, cold and windy summers of St. John's. I like seeing the sun! 8-)
At least I only feel like I have to stay inside in the air conditioning for a few days a year, as opposed to staying in for warmth for half the summer!
In all seriousness, I moved to Ottawa from St. John's after spending about 6 years there. Although I love being back on The Rock, I prefer the longer warm months here in Ottawa.
