The family enjoys finding state license plates and I can identify a lot of them by now, but I saw one i'd never seen before and can't seem to find it on Google. It was an old state plate with no design on it. Background was blue like an old california plate, but the letters were a dark red. IIRC, it was the standard three letters and three numbers.
In deep procrastination mode, I went through that entire site and didn't see a blue background with red letters. Could it have been an early vanity plate?
Illinois had a red on black in 1929 (useless things you find in your searches online). but i didn't see any with red on blue.
I would imagine that would be a difficult color combo to see from distances, so i guess it wasn't widely used.
It was very difficult and that's why I couldn't read the state. It was dark and I couldn't even read it from less than a car length. I don't think it was a vanity plate because it didn't spell anything obvious and looked to be in the standard three letter / three number format.
Maybe I got the colors wrong because it was dark, but I don't think so. I'm pretty positive the letters were red. Dang! It's going to be a mystery now.
It's also possible it was painted? Which I would assume would be illegal, but we've got all kinds here in Eugene.
