I wish there was a "LIKE" button to click on individual posts as in facebook.
Put it right below the "Report this post as spam " link.
I'm on another forum (not photo-related) and they've implemented that about two years ago. It's had its ups and downs but has overall been a very well received addition to the forum. Many times I've wished it were in use here.
What exactly is the point of a "Like" button? I'd assume there also a "Dislike" button? What comes of the collected liked or disliked posts? Why does someone need to know whether or not you and everyone else liked a particular post?
I'm likely leaning towards a "Dislike" of this suggestion, but I honestly just don't get it. What would this "Like" button add to DPChallenge?
I think a like and a dislike button would be great and it would sort of act as feedback on your post without people having to reply to it.
I definitely think it would not do any harm.

Yeh like on youtube, after you have liked/disliked it, it either turns red or green and a number appears at the side saying how many likes/dislikes that post has had.

For people used to facebook and YouTube, it would be a useful and familiar feature. At a minimum, it is simply used as an acknowledgment that a member or members appreciated your post. That's mostly what people use the "Marked as helpful" feature here for as well. A "dislike" or thumbs down feature, while many people think would also be useful, would cause more problems, IMO. So I would vote for a Like button that tells the poster (and anyone else) who liked it and/or a thumbs up and down button that is anonymous.

If this were to come to be, I agree, the thumbs down would just cause unnecessary negativity. I still don't understand the point of it all though.
Is it really just an affirmation of approval? Do people really need to know that? If someone likes something why not just post saying you like it? We're always begging people to slow down when they vote on challenges and leave comments, but wouldn't the like button equate to speed voting and not leaving comments?
I guess I still don't understand why Langdon would spend time adding this feature unless it provides a community usefulness. That community usefulness is what I don't see. I'm a very logical and impersonal person though (only child, raised in the hills syndrome), so maybe it's just my lack of understanding of how normal people interact. I'm not saying I necessarily oppose the idea, I just don't get it.
Ohhhhhh, see that makes sense. Something I'd still never use since I don't use Facebook, but I can see why someone might want that added to this site. And I can see it being beneficial by potentially increasing DPChallenge traffic.
I thought the OP was talking about just an internal thumbs up/thumbs down post approval type thing.
