You probably have an old version of Adobe Camera Raw. You will need to update ACR to the latest version compatible with CS4. I believe that should cover the 7D. Do keep in mind that Adobe stops updating ACR for Ps version X as soon as version X+1 is released, so if you buy a camera released after a Ps version launch, you will never get support for it in ACR unless you upgrade Ps.
I have the same problem, though I'm using Elements 7. Having already spent so much on the camera, I'm not keen to buy new software right now, so I've decided to make do with Digital Photo Professional, which came with the camera. It's a bit of a nuisance having to work with 2 programs, but it will do for now.
It's just a matter of time: when your version was introduced vs when the 7D was introduced. I am pretty sure CS4 covers the 7D if you update ACR. No harm in DOING it, then you'll know. If you can't update it to 7D compatibility, then you can use Adobe's RAW-to-DNG converter, which gets RAW files into a format that can be used universally. That's how I work on 7D files now, in CS3. Penny has CS5, and she opens directly.

Downloaded the converter and it works fine. I'm absolutely delighted.
Just to share my first photo with the 7D - taken a few days ago. Not a great composition, and it doesn't look too good at 100%, but taken at around 5:30am, hand-held, it needed ISO 2500, a luxury I've never had before.

I didn't realise this was compatible with Elements 7, but it appears it is. Seems I didn't need the converter after all. Will have to download this when I have more time. Thanks.
I'll try. Trouble is I don't seem to be able to come up with a good score very often. I really like my entry for "From the ground up" but that doesn't guarantee other people will. But with the number of entries in so far, I should be able to make the top 100:)
