....stimulate the wedding business as a whole?
When it comes to wedding bookings I am up on bookings for next year than what I was at this same point last year - however, with the announcement that Prince William is to marry Kate Middleton next year sometime, one can not be blamed for thinking that this might stimulate the wedding industry a bit as others rush to marry in the same year as our potential future King? Does anyone know if historically a Royal Wedding has caused the business to experience a surge?I know the industry has changed a lot since the last big wedding (1981) - the younger siblings don't really count.
On a personal note I think its great news - not only do we get a national holiday, but for all the naysayers who says it costs us millions to stage one of these events, I daresay for every £1 it costs us to stage a Royal Wedding, at least £20 goes back into the economy in terms of tourism & business. The advertising revenues alone, not to mention the international TV rights etc more than pay for the cost.
I can still remember the street party we had in 1981 on the wedding day of Charles and Diana. Red, White & Blue bunting, Union flags flying - hopefully we can recapture that spirit again and its a chance to fly the Union flag without being deemed a fascist or a racist.
And hey, I am personally invested in weddings!
