I know a lot of people on here often look for ideas for Maternity shoots. I thought I would share this image I did. It took 9 months to complete and the client loves it. It should open up some ideas for some of you.

I then went on to shoot the birth at 2-00 in the morning.

You need to work out your costings over the timeframe. Will it be at their place your yours...how much time involved for each shoot. Will you cover a prebirth shoot, a birth shoot and/or an after birth shoot (usually in first 2 weeks). Then offer them the different services and allow them to pay it over time or if you insist on upfront payment. A lot to take into consideration...but well worth it.
With an off-sider we were able to get in to their place, set up studio, get lighting and pose/costume right, shoot, set down studio and get out in 40 minutes.
With costume you need to make sure the outfit can fit all sizes...they can change their hair but any hair accessories must stay for consistency. Pose the model to allow for best viewing of all changes throughout the time-frame.
