SC? Can you confirm? I've seen "fire" added to expert edits before, so I can't see why a texture overlay wouldn't be allowed.
From the rules:
"You may use images that do not meet the source or date requirements as textures in your entry if they function specifically as textures and not to circumvent other rules."
So, not only can you use textures, but they may even be files that you took a while ago, or that wasn't taken by you at all and just found on the web somewhere (as long as you use it only as a texture).
