I've taken on a student. She's very motivated to learn about portrait/wedding photography and often is my second shooter at weddings.Today, I took her and a model to a high-end hotel for location lighting lessons.
I have to say I'm quite proud of her work today. Below is natural light with a kicker (one of my Vivitar 285HV flashes).
Sorry if this is a dumb question - what constitutes a "kicker" and where was it positioned?

A kicker adds a bit of light on the shadowed side of an image to retain shape, although this one could also be considered a hair light. The light is positioned above the model to the right of the frame, behind her.
