This will probably be understood more by the UK contingent, but if it wasn't for the rescue of the miners, todays top news story would of been the 85th Birthday of Margaret Thatcher and the fact she spent it at Downing Street - surely the irony isn't lost on her that she was knocked off the news-stands with news about a Govenment who actually looks after its miners.

Once the authorities have established the cause for this mishap, and have exonerated the government of any blame in this tragedy, then I might agree with your statement.

Actually Ray the story yesterday was of a government looking after its miners.
The Chilean (love that word!) President Pinera has already admitted responsibility and says things need to change.
Moving on, whilst it could of been potentially been a huge tradegy, Chile has actually come out of this rather well - both domestically (the current approval rating of the president is in the 80% bracket) and more importantly, internationally.

It may well be that you don't give a shit, but having worked in a mine and being familiar with the myriad of things that can go wrong, I do give a shit since in this country at least, governments are responsible for ensuring that companies exercise due diligence to ensure the safety of their employees.
It is indeed a wonderful thing that these miners are safely at home with their loved ones, but if the event was caused by something that can be rectified, then government intervention is NOT a bad thing.
