I shot Minolta for years - Sony acquired Minolta's consumer brand recently. I still have a Minolta 7D, which works like a charm and produces quality images, but when Sony announced the A900, I looked at it long and hard, especially how it held up to the Canon 5D. It didn't. The in-body stabilization is nice (exists on the 7D), but the in-camera processing of RAW files, which cannot be turned off, was quite a turn-off. That may not be an inconvenience to some, but it was to me. Additionally, high ISO performance testing seemed to lag behind the Canon/Nikon equivalents at the time.
I had/have a lot of good Minolta glass and the image quality with good lenses is excellent. I hated to abandon the Minolta brand, but settled on Canon and the 5D2. I still like to pull out the 7D on occasion - when 6mp "will do". :)
