We realize that closeups are not macros -- but even though the challenge is titled "macro" the description says macros or closeups. So it matters not if a closeup is a macro -- they both fit the challenge.

No one said all closeups are macros. But, you miss the point. The challenge description doesn't require a macro. Close-up images are acceptable. The title implies the challenge would be macro images, but is expanded by the challenge description. You inferred from the challenge title that you should discriminate against images which are not technically macros. Maybe you didn't read the challenge description. It doesn't matter. Out of fairness, the expansive language in the challenge description should be eliminated, or the definition of a what constitutes a macro image should be clarified.

My score on this one isn't doing so well. After reading this thread, I wonder if my composition is poor, or if the quality of the image is lacking, or if it's not enough of a macro/close-up to fit the challenge (per some opinions), or if the subject just isn't very interesting or is cliche... ?
I thought it was quite possibly my best work so far.
The score on it was "ok" for a little bit (might have even made it onto my profile page), but has been dropping since voting started (barely holding 5). One kind person has left me a comment, containing some praise, but no critiques/suggestions/recommendations, yet. Maybe I'm in that middle-zone that's not good enough or bad enough?
I challenge you nay-sayers, who are disappointed with the entries, to leave some feedback on more images. Don't be afraid to give "criticism". Speaking for myself, I'm here to learn, not just be part of a tight circle that pats itself on the back all the time (tho, I must admit... a little of that goes a long way).

Looks like it may end up right at 5. This will be my benchmark, as this is my first challenge. Hopefully I will improve steadily with future posts. It's sure fun being able to watch the score as votes come in.
I truly have a macro score.... verging on becoming micro.... it hurts.
Maybe I should have framed it with my pet hate frame, two thick black lines one on top and one below. I mean, that would have been more trendy, not so, well ordinary. Hehehehe ;-P (I am sure it is not a secret what I hate most by now.)

While it certainly is an annoyance, I am just wondering at the state of no comments. Tis been a hectic week and checking in for a handful of minutes a pop I think I just might finish out this challenge with '0' comments....but I do have a favorite.
