Y2K, what a let down. Not only did we not get to see mass worldwide panic when global computer systems failed. The New Years Eve parties were generally a flop.
People had high expectations. I remember in my teens imagining how great the final party of 1999 would be, the biggest new years eve party in a thousand years. Even Prince wrote a song about it.
But... nothing. What happened in this country was that bar staff and taxi drivers started pushing up their wages and their prices for that one night, to the point where everyone stayed at home at watched the TV instead. |
