bobonacusMe being new at this I forgot to post some additional info that might be helpful. I was in full M mode and shooting in RAW so in post processing I manipulated the exposures to a more pleasing level. That is why they look almost the same. Still even with my manipulating I could not make them be excactly what I was looking for so, so I figured I must have messed up somewhere in the actual shooting, with my levels.
Your other 2 shots have gone now but I *think* the settings you shot at were all about the same exposure
Your best bet then is do what you were doing but change only one thing to see the results. If you were shooting hand held your shutter speed maybe just a tiny bit low (if on a tripod thats fine)
Maybe try shooting at 1/50 ISO 200 then shoot a range of shots at f5.6, f8, f11 and f16 ... each time you will be halving the light getting to the sensor. If you find the f5.6 is too dark then set the ISO to 400 and do the same again.
Your 400d does have bracketing (when camera is set to burst shooting in AEB it will take 3 shots in a row) and it does have EV exposure compensation.
I shot my first 2 weddings this year, nerveracking to say the least but with LOTS of preperation I think I managed to do a pretty good job, both couples were happy with the shots and I've learned loads!! So over the next few days I'm gonna post a load of them :) Feel free to offer any cc :)
I'm throwing my FS shot in here for a little critique. The voters all seemed to think, blah. It finished pretty low in the pack, there were no comments until late last night. Is it really as bad as all that? Help me out with this one.
I had this hidden in my portfolio (and had only showed it in the TS thread). But this is what I took the picture for.
OK, I am slacking a bit today, but I kind of like this shot. 4x5 glass plate negative from the early 1900's. Photographer unknown. Part of a small collection I picked up at an antique shop a few weeks back.

Now I need to start packing; leaving about 4:30 am for a trip to PA for a three day Irish Wolfhound specialty show. Don't be surprised if my next few pictures are of IWs (again).
